Child Find
At the age of three and older, the responsibility for identifying children with developmental delays and providing services to children with special needs is with each of the public school districts.
The Child Find evaluations are administered through school districts are free for Delaware families. These screenings help identify children who may have delays in the areas of motor, concepts and/or communication development as well as those who may have behavioral problems. Following the screening, a recommendation may be made to the Office of Special Services requesting further testing be done. Child Find evaluation services include assessments of learning strengths and needs. If in fact a child is deemed eligible for services, they will be offered to families and provided by the local school district. Children age 3-5 may be eligible for the school district preschool programs.
