Election Assistance Commission Termination Act
Synopsis:
H.R. 634 would eliminate the Election Assistance Commission (EAC), created by the Help America Vote Act of 2002, which seeks to assist states in their efforts to ensure accessible, accurate and secure elections. The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Gregg Harper, says the EAC has “outlived its usefulness and purpose” and contends eliminating it would save millions of dollars. Backers of the commission contend it improves accessibility of polling places and the polling process for people with disabilities.
