Posted March 10, 2022 4:03 pmSeeking people with disabilities and/or their family members to join the Center’s Community Advisory Council.
As a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, CDS maintains an advisory body with a majority of members representing people with disabilities and family members of people with disabilities. CDS benefits from an engaged Community Advisory Council (CAC), many members of which have long-standing affiliations with the Center. The purposes of the Council are to: 1) assist CDS with identification of goals and objectives and with implementing activities; 2) assist CDS with development and periodic revision of its five-year plan and annually assess and comment on progress towards meeting the projected goals in the plan; 3) assist CDS with data-driven strategic planning; 4) provide independent advice and recommendations to CDS concerning policies and program operations; 5) provide affirmative advocacy, technical assistance and support to facilitate the success of CDS projects, research and other initiatives; and 6) provide links to public and private collaborative organizations.
The CAC customarily meets four times per year, and members are typically appointed to a three-year term. Although no compensation is provided to CAC members for their participation, reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses incurred as a result of participation (e.g., mileage reimbursement, paratransit tickets, etc.) is available for members with a disability and family representatives.
To nominate someone with a disability/family member for CAC membership—self-nominations are permitted—please fill out the Community Advisory Council (CAC) Membership Nomination Form. Before submitting the nomination form, please verify that the individual is willing to serve.
