Careers in speech and language pathology (SLP) usually require an advanced degree (MA or MS) in speech language pathology or in communication sciences and disorders. To ensure that students are adequately prepared for graduate-level training, most graduate programs require the completion of specific prerequisite courses at the undergraduate level. UD students who wish to prepare for graduate school in SLP should major in Cognitive Science with a specialization in pre-professional SLP. This area of specialization is designed to provide the pre-requisite requirements for most graduate programs.

The University of Delaware is committed to providing quality Secondary Education programs that prepare young people to become highly qualified professional teachers. In four years, undergraduates can earn a bachelor’s degree in their content area and complete a set of pre-professional courses as well as a field experience that prepare them to teach in grades 7-12.

The Special Olympics is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition.

Special Olympics Delaware provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people eight years of age and older with intellectual disabilities.

The State Council For Persons with Disabilities’ (SCPD) mission is to unite disability advocates and State agency policy makers to ensure that individuals with disabilities are empowered to become fully integrated within the community.

The Arc of Delaware is an organization of and for people with intellectual disabilities and related developmental disabilities and their families devoted to promoting and improving supports and services for people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

The Arc of the United States works to include all children and adults with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities in every community.

United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware, Inc. (UCP) helps raise public awareness and understanding of people with cerebral palsy. In addition, we provide programs and services to people with all types of orthopedic disabilities, including spina bifida and muscular dystrophy.

Variety: The Children’s Charity is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization committed to providing programs and services to help improve the quality of life for children with disabilities in the Delaware Valley. They serve children between birth and 21 years of age with temporary and/or permanent disabilities resulting from injury, illness, or congenital conditions.
