Advocacy
Parents of children with disabilities, surrogate parents and students aged 18 or over have specific rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These rights are sometimes called procedural safeguards and are designed to keep families involved in their child's education. These rights are also intended to provide families and schools with a way to resolve disputes.
There are several organizations that can help you to learn about your rights and assist you if a problem should arise at your child’s school. Condition specific organizations (located in Family Support) may also be able to help you learn more related to your child’s specific needs.
